The Local Project x Park View House

The Local Project x Park View House

A home previously bearing the name the ‘ugly duckling’ was transformed and lovingly re-named “Parkview House” after 8 months of hard work.

The original plans were to renovate the circa 1950’s Art Deco home, however the owners and designer of this Thornbury, VIC home quickly discovered that the house was originally build with weatherboard. Adding to the drama, the facade was bricked over with an extremely questionable backyard extension, so the team pivoted and decided to work with an architect, an interior designer and a builder collaboratively, to design a new home which would look like it was never out of place!

Owners worked alongside Elevate Building Group to complete this stunning transformation project; James Hardie Linear Cement Sheeting was used instead of timber for the weatherboard cladding, installing a Delos 3-stage Whole Home Water Filtration System that filters all water coming into the home, installing a Tesla Wall Car Charger, double glazing throughout with skylights through our bathrooms. Design was completed with the amazing work from Shaynna Blaze and Allie Harris, alongside Build Her Collective; an empowering online course for women about home renovating, design and styling!

The use of lots of natural light in the hallway and open plan kitchen/living/dining area made it the perfect place to feature the Sculpt Fireplace Collection Seguin Axis i1000 Freestanding Single Sided fireplace. Axis fireplaces specialise in the manufacturing of designer wood fireplaces in a variety of different styles, shapes and sizes.

Handmade in the Rhone Alps region of France, the Axis i1000FS Single Sided wood fireplace is a display of geometric versatility and artisan engineered construction. The wood fireplace exudes a mesmerising display of flames and unsurpassed design excellence. With a heating capacity of up to 300m2 and an average efficiency of 66%, this unit is sure to stun in any space!

Fitted with industry leading innovation such as DAFS (Double Air Flow System), this technology works by injecting oxygen at a determined level inside of the combustion chamber. The supply of new oxygen will burn the gases and smoke that has not yet been burnt and prevent them from being released into the flu system. The additional self-washing glass system feature provides less CO2 emissions, creating longer fire term/burn time, cleaner glass and bricks and total combustion of the firewood.

This project combines a seamless blend between stylish aesthetic and comfortable functionality, creating a family home providing light-filled sophistication, innovative finishes and thoughtful entertaining options. An exquisite project Sculpt Fireplace Collection were proud to be a part of.

Sculpt Fireplaces DAFS: Combustion Optimisation

Posted on April 19th, 2021 by marketing@sculptfireplaces.com.au

Sculpt Fireplace Collection products provide high quality and high efficiency products, learn about DAFS Combustion Optimisation system here!

The science of the Flame – It seems like an elementary thing to us as we’ve been burning wood since burning wood was invented, however the process of combustion is actually a series of complex chemical reactions between a fuel source and oxygen. What occurs in this exothermic reaction is more than just energy (heat) production, what forms is a double oxygen bond (02) which basically means energy is a result of the molecule being strengthened in the reaction – this is combustion in a shortened, simplified version. In a wood fire the energy produced and the resulting flames and heat make it possible for this process to become self-sustaining form of combustion or the cosy (Sculpt) fireplace you enjoy. Sculpt.

The wood combustion process and all it’s stages; complete, incomplete, smouldering, rapid, spontaneous, turbulent, micro-gravity and micro-combustion can be calculated which means we have highly educated professionals who’s main objective it is to discover how to maximise your wood heater and minimise pollution. They know how to create the largest energy production with the least amount of energy lost, how to minimise fuel use and by-product emissions and thus optimise the process of combustion. So without getting any further into the science of flames, and using impressive sounding words like stoichiometric, chemical equilibrium and catalytic converter – which would guarantee you, dear reader, a deep sleep, lets tell you how Sculpt’s products achieve patented optimised combustion.

Most Axis and Seguin models are equipped with DAFS technology – a patented method of combustion management that controls reaction mechanisms, air flow, temperature and instabilities in both the primary and secondary phases of combustion. In long form DAFS stands for Double Air Flow System, it’s an optimised burn system that improves performance right from the initial ignition stage. All this ensures Sculpt’s products have more effective burn systems, maximise airflow and heat production, utilise optimal oxygen and fuel ratios, have superior heat output, are eco-friendly, and result in cleaner units, glass and flue systems, and have a longer burn times than open fireplaces. Sculpt Fireplace Collection’s Seguin range and it’s exclusive patented DAFS technology ensures your purchase not only looks fantastic but works fantastically, looking great for longer and warming your home more effectively and reducing pollutants in your home and the environment.

For the past 40 years Jean-Claude Bordelet has designed and manufactured contemporary suspended metallic fireplaces in his workshop in Montpellier in France. It was in 1982 when JC Bordelet caused a sensation when he presented at a Parisian Trade Show, he showed his audacity and innovation when he designed a completely open, central fireplace suspended from the ceiling lacquered in vibrant blue. Since then, the company has cemented itself as the avant-garde masters in wood fireplace design, integrating colour and spectacular metal techniques. All JC Bordelet designer wood fireplaces are hand made by experienced and passionate craft-people, the only fireplaces using 4mm thick steel for durability and performance. Each and every suspended firepeice is begun in the sketch rooms of Bordelet and personalised by their designers, for a unique and exceptionally finished product and with only limited pieces per year being made worldwide.
