Perched on a rural block in Inverloch, Victoria, The Silo House merges rustic history with architectural ambition. Originally the site of a modest cedar farmhouse, the property has been reimagined into one of Australia’s most talked-about design stays, featured on Grand Designs Australia (Season 10, Episode 2) and listed among the country’s top 100 unique getaways.
At the heart of this distinctive cabin-style retreat stands the Seguin Super 9 freestanding wood fireplace, supplied by Sculpt Fireplace Collection. It not only heats the home but defines its soul.
Where Rural Charm Meets Modern Craft
The design honours the site’s origins while embracing reinvention. Materials from the original build — timber, steel, concrete — are repurposed to form a backdrop for bold architectural moves. Exposed concrete walls, raw finishes, and vintage textures meet contemporary detailing throughout the home’s three-storey layout.
The two original silos now serve as self-contained bedroom towers, each with an ensuite and dramatic vertical volume. High ceilings in the main pod accommodate mezzanine sleeping quarters, creating a warm, loft-style energy.
Fireplace as Design Anchor
In the centre of the home, the Seguin Super 9 becomes the visual and emotional anchor. Mounted on a black steel bench, it delivers both architectural weight and functional warmth. The strong lines and robust cast iron finish mirror the project’s industrial edge, while the rich flame softens the concrete palette and invites guests to gather.
Surrounded by salvaged leather sofas, vintage rugs, and panoramic countryside views, the fireplace transforms the living room into a space of connection and comfort.
A Layout Built for Lifestyle
The Silo House was made to be shared. The large industrial-style kitchen flows into an open dining area, which spills out to a deck and outdoor firepit. Downstairs, a hidden speakeasy lounge brings a sense of surprise and retreat. It’s a moody, low-lit space designed for slow drinks, late conversations, or quiet reflection.
Across four bedrooms, the home sleeps up to 12 guests. Every detail, from raw beams to custom joinery, plays a role in the storytelling. Yet it’s the fireplace that ties everything together, offering warmth, grounding, and timeless character.
