Axis I1000 Freestanding DS
Cottonwood is a celebrated residence that has undergone a thoughtful and striking transformation. Originally designed by Richard Kirk Architect, the home now reflects a renewed vision, driven by its current custodians, Shaun and Julie Lockyer. Their goal was to enhance the property’s timeless architectural integrity while embracing a more modern, subtropical lifestyle.
Through a meticulous renovation by Shaun Lockyer Architects (SLa), the home now presents a seamless blend of old and new. Central to this revival is the Axis i1000 freestanding double sided wood fireplace, supplied by Sculpt Fireplace Collection. Positioned atop a sleek black steel bench in the main living area, it serves as both a visual anchor and a practical feature. The fireplace enhances warmth and atmosphere, offering a modern design statement that complements the home’s original architectural language.
The exterior was also reimagined to better connect the structure with its lush surroundings. Stone cladding replaced older materials, and the removal of boundary fencing allowed the home to merge gracefully with the neighbouring crown land. These adjustments helped soften the property’s edges and extend the interior’s openness into the landscape.
Inside, the transformation continues through refined styling, curated lighting, and layered textures. Natural finishes, paired with meaningful art and decor, create a luxurious yet inviting atmosphere. Every room feels connected, while still offering its own distinct character.
Careful landscaping and architectural lighting further enhance the spatial experience. Water features and framed views contribute to a resort-like ambiance, reinforcing the connection between interior and exterior spaces.
In the end, Cottonwood stands as a tribute to design evolution—where legacy and innovation coexist. The Axis i1000 freestanding double sided wood fireplace symbolises this relationship perfectly, anchoring a home that respects its past while embracing the beauty of change.
